Legal aid organization welcomes formerly incarcerated attorney, advocate for justice reform, and passionate leader to board of directors.
Fort Lauderdale, FL (May 5, 2023) –
Florida Justice Center announced today the addition of Brian Pierce, J.D. to its board of directors. Brian comes to Florida Justice Center (FLJC) with over two decades of legal experience in both public service and private practice, as well as lived experience as a formerly incarcerated person. Brian has the unique distinction of being the country’s first person to become a prosecutor after serving time in prison.
Brian’s legal career has included stints as a prosecutor, public defender, and private attorney, as well as serving as a clerk for the Minnesota Court of Appeals. He has also been a dedicated pro bono advocate throughout his career, providing legal services to low-income individuals and working to promote access to justice for all.
“I am honored to join the board of the Florida Justice Center,” said Pierce. “The work that they do to ensure that everyone has access to quality legal representation is vital, and I am excited to contribute my skills and experience to this important mission.”
Brian’s appointment comes at a critical time for the Florida Justice Center, as the organization continues to expand its services and outreach efforts. His legal expertise and commitment to social justice make him an ideal addition to the board, and his leadership will be instrumental in advancing the organization’s goals.
“It is exciting to have someone as distinguished a Brian Pierce join the board of directors. His passion for helping justice-impacted people comes from personal experience. There is no stronger motivation and I know Brian’s commitment will drive FLJC into its next generation of service to the community,” said FLJC Executive Director Jonathan Bleiweiss.
