Rights Restoration Training at NSU College of Law
October 10, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Join Florida Justice Center Director of Legal Services Alex Saiz, Esq. and Staff Attorney Zubin Kapadia, Esq., LL.M., for FREE training sessions on the rights restoration topics of sealing and expungement and voting rights.
The first, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm will discuss sealing and expungement. This is the process by which an arrest and court record is erased (expunged) or restricted from public access (sealed). Sealing or expunging an arrest record helps give someone a second chance at success by clearing a blemish from their criminal history. However there are many nuanced requirements to qualify under current Florida law. Alex and Zubin will be discussing each of these requirements and walking you through real-life examples using celebrities.
Following the passage of Amendment 4 in 2019, people with felony convictions were given the right to vote with some notable restrictions. Even the most seasoned lawyers get confused by the web of reenfranchisement requirements. From 6:30pm-7:30pm, we will train you in the various requirements to qualify or disqualify an individual for voting rights restoration.
Attendees will be provided with takeaway resources and a Q&A period will follow each section.
While this session if free, attendees are encouraged to make a donation.
