Legal aid organization welcomes accomplished university administrator, professor, and change management consultant to board of directors.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (May 8, 2023) –

Florida Justice Center announced today the addition of Tretha Harris, MACJ, to its board of directors. Tretha brings to Florida Justice Center over a decade of higher education leadership and a passion for connecting justice-impacted people with resources that allow them to live a better life after prison.

Tretha Harris is an award-winning higher education executive, change management consultant, and justice advocate. She is an expert in creating inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing environments. As a professor, Tretha has taught courses in criminal justice, political science/government, and paralegal studies. Her academic research focuses on the intersection of race, gender, crime, and education.

“I live by this quote by Rosa Parks: ‘I would like to be known as a person who is concerned about freedom and equality and justice and prosperity for all people.’ I am excited to join Florida Justice Center’s board of directors to contribute to the change that Ms. Parks envisioned,” said Tretha Harris.

Tretha has served as the Chair of the Community College Section of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), President of the Texas Association of Criminal Justice Educators (TACJE), Vice President of the North Texas Council of College and University Registrar and Admissions Officers (NTCCURAO), and Education and Research Lead for Two Year College Advising Community at NACADA (National Academic Advising Association). She currently volunteers her time in various organizations that support reentry programs, literacy and basic needs, housing/homelessness, civic engagement, and higher education.

“Tretha brings a personal dedication to ensuring access to education, voting rights, and housing to all people that is at the core of Florida Justice Center’s mission and values. I can’t wait to see the amazing work that Tretha will do in her new leadership role,” said Florida Justice Center Executive Director Jonathan Bleiweiss.
